Smooth Web App Pentest

We used Cobalt.io for a Web Application Pentest and the whole process was pretty seamless. Setting up the project on their PtaaS platform was straightforward. The pentesters started quickly, much faster than traditional firms we've used before. Communication through the platform was good, and they provided real-time reporting which was helpful for our dev team. We got the final report, which was detailed enough for our compliance needs. The Security Retesting also went without a hitch. Overall, a solid service and platform experience.

Mostly positive, one small snag

We went with Cobalt for a Cloud Infrastructure Pentest, specifically an AWS Security Audit. The platform was intuitive, and the pentesters delivered actionable findings. The real-time reporting was a definite positive for keeping our team updated. My only minor gripe was that the initial onboarding call felt a bit rushed, not quite covering all my questions about their SDLC Integration. Otherwise, the service and the final report were good, and we got the value we expected.

Consistent service, easy integration

This was our third time using Cobalt, this time for an External Network Pentest. Like before, the experience was consistent. We integrated it with Jira and Slack, which really streamlined our team's workflow – something we always appreciate. The reports are reliable, and the retesting phase is always handled promptly. They've maintained their quality over the past year, which is why we keep coming back.

Good value on annual plan

I was looking for a cost-effective way to get ongoing security for our startup. We opted for an annual contract for a Mobile Application Pentest after a demo. The 15% saving for the annual commitment was a big plus. It felt like a good deal for the level of service provided. Worth the investment.

Thinking of using Cobalt for our next pentest. Is it generally cheaper than bringing in one of those old-school consulting firms?

S Sandra H. 2 weeks ago
From my experience, yeah. It feels a lot more streamlined and less overhead than the traditional firms. They also seem quicker to get started.

C Chris 1 week ago
It can be. It's 'pentest as a service' so it's designed to be more agile and scalable. Depends on what you need, but for regular testing, it often beats the big name consultancies on cost.

Does Cobalt integrate with Jira? Our dev team practically lives in Jira and it would make bug tracking so much easier.

P Patricia T. 3 weeks ago
Absolutely. They have a Jira integration that works great for pushing findings directly to your development tickets.

M Michelle S. 3 weeks ago
Yep, Jira integration is a big feature. Slack too, if you use that for alerts. Makes life way easier for dev and security teams.

how long does it typically take to get a pentest started with Cobalt? our old provider always took weeks to even schedule.

S Susan Moore 1 month ago
Super fast compared to what I was used to. Once you're set up on the platform, you can initiate a test pretty quickly, sometimes within days.

K Kyle Torres 1 month ago
It's pretty quick. Like, 'days to start' quick, not 'weeks to schedule' quick. The platform streamlines a lot of that initial back-and-forth.

Thinking about Cobalt for our startup. Do they offer any special pricing for smaller companies just starting out?

A Aaron Wilson 1 month ago
I think so, yeah. I remember seeing something about a 'startup program discount.' Worth asking their sales team about.

A Alex Lewis 1 month ago
They definitely have a startup program. It's designed to help smaller companies get access to pentesting without breaking the bank.

Is Cobalt legit? I see a lot of these new 'as a service' companies pop up, just wanna make sure it's not some fly-by-night operation for security stuff.

M Mark Parker 2 weeks ago
Totally legit. They're pretty well-known in the cybersecurity space, and their pentesters are all vetted. Used them for SOC 2 compliance last year.
2
B Brandon 1 week ago
Yeah, they're legit. They're CREST certified too, which is a pretty big deal in the pentesting world. Don't worry about that.

anyone got a secret promo code for Cobalt? trying to get a better deal on an annual plan.

E Emma Turner 1 month ago
Nah, they don't really do public promo codes. It's more of a sales-driven thing. You gotta talk to their team for custom quotes and discounts.

A Amber Gonzalez 1 month ago
You won't find a coupon field. Best bet is to negotiate for an annual contract; that's where the real savings are, like 10-20% usually.

How does Cobalt compare to like, HackerOne or Bugcrowd? Is it the same kind of thing?

P Paul A. 2 weeks ago
It's similar in that they use a community of researchers, but Cobalt is more focused on structured pentests rather than just bug bounties. It's like a more managed pentesting service.
2
S Susan Garcia 2 weeks ago
Not exactly the same. HackerOne and Bugcrowd are more bug bounty platforms. Cobalt offers actual pentests, like full engagements, but leveraging that community model. So it's a bit different workflow-wise.

hey, anyone know if Cobalt does free trials? i want to kick the tires before committing to anything big.

P Paul P. 1 month ago
Yeah, they do. I got a free demo and platform trial last year to see how it worked for our dev team.

J Justin Gomez 1 month ago
They offer a free demo for sure. Not exactly a free trial where you can just run a pentest on your own, but they'll show you around the platform and how it operates.
